Guest Lecture on “Law and Social Change in Contemporary India”

 The Faculty of Law organized a guest lecture on Law and Social Change in Contemporary India on 17th May, 2022 at the Seminar Hall of the Faculty of Law.   There were about 61 students who participated in the guest lecture.  He argued that Law is not only for establishing social order, but also for social change. If social acceptance is there for any laws, then only. it will be an effective tool for social change. He cited various acts namely Hindu Marriage Act (1955); Hindu Succession Act (1956); Hindu Adoption Maintenance Act (1956); Children’s Act (1960);Dowry Prohibition Act (1961); Widow Remarriage Act (1856) and its social impacts on society. He traced legal developments from colonial period to the contemporary period and dwelt upon its social impacts. He discussed about the flip side of law and its relationship with social change. It was a great learning, insightful and engaging session. The guest lecture ended with a vote of thanks by and Dr.Mahalingam, Coordinator of guest lecture.
